Course Overview
Overview
This short course is designed to support post-school-age students with permanent intellectual disabilities. Students are supported to experience many opportunities to boost their confidence, learn new skills, meet new people, and engage with education and community. Students experience a variety of at least three different vocational tasters and discover more about the world of work. Students engage in many practical hands-on activities with sessions with qualified industry specialists and work together to achieve team projects throughout the year. They also complete industry visits to discover more about their chosen fields of work. Vocational areas are chosen by the students as a group and have in the past included hospitality, horticulture, floristry, retail, and art.
Duration
Part-time: 10 months (1 day per week)
Requirements
Students must have evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment or intellectual disability. All potential students must attend a pre-training interview to determine their suitability, to discuss goals, and to identify any barriers to learning.
Assessment
Assessment will be through class participation and contribution to projects.
